Started by our Director, Gemma Underwood, in 2015, Underwood Consulting has grown to provide a series of professional services delivered by Gemma and a team of highly qualified and experienced associates, who are passionate about the health, social care and voluntary sector.

Gemma
Gemma established Underwood Consulting to support health and social care organisations to win contracts, develop sustainable fundraising strategies and write applications to obtain the funds they require. Educated to degree level and with APMP certification, Gemma has supported 50+ clients to win contracts and places on dynamic purchasing systems with Local Authorities and the NHS. Alongside this, she has 20 years fundraising experience, working as head of fundraising for several national and regional charities and specialises in trust and corporate fundraising.
Wadzanai
Wadzanai has extensive grant and bid writing experience in healthcare and the wider public sector. With an MSC in Public Policy and BA Degree in International Relations and Politics, Wadzanai specialises in writing successful responses to pre-qualification questionnaires, grant documents, quality submissions, requests for proposal, mini-competition questionnaires and supports UC with high quality grant writing and research to support the above
Katie
Katie has worked in charitable and cultural organisations for over two decades, including six years leading the trust fundraising team at a leading youth charity. Katie began her charity career at the Big Issue in The North way back in 2002. She then forged a 12-year career in development at three of Manchester’s most iconic cultural venues. Since then, she has helped raise millions of pounds for UK charities across the youth, disability, and criminal justice sectors. Specialising in trust fundraising and prospect research, Katie’s passion is to support smaller charities to become more resilient in these challenging times.
Lisa
Lisa has over 25 years of experience in researching, bid writing and fundraising from Trusts and Foundations for a range of amazing causes from human rights and disability to protecting the environment. Educated to postgraduate degree level, Lisa provides UC with high quality grants bid writing and research support.
Max
Max has 10 years’ experience in fundraising, and has worked for a range of human rights and humanitarian organisations across the UK. His most recent role was as Head of Grants for a national human rights charity where he was responsible for generating £1m each year from a range of trusts, foundations, and statutory funds. He has extensive experience in prospect research, proposal writing, and grant management and has a successful track record of generating five and six-figure donations for restricted projects as well as unrestricted funding. Educated to Degree level and above Max provides UC with high quality support in grants bid writing and research.
Amanda
A Registered General Nurse with a Master’s degree in Practice and Professional Development, Amanda has extensive experience within the healthcare sector working at both an operational and strategic level within the NHS for over 30 years. Previous roles include Head of Service, Infection Prevention and Control, Divisional Lead Nurse and Matron, and Programme Manager for NICE Quality Standards. Amanda has been responsible for service reviews, product evaluation, and business case development during her NHS career and is proficient at NHS policy development, board and report writing and currently acts as a nurse expert adviser for the Public Ombudsman Service.
